Catch the Wind: Rising on the Breath of God
Key Thought: You cannot create the wind of God—but you can position your life to catch it.
Text: Isaiah 40:31
Have you ever felt like a sailboat sitting in dead-still water? You have the boat, the mast, and the sails, but you aren’t moving. No matter how skilled the sailor is, without the wind, the boat is just a stationary object.
This is the reality for many of us in our spiritual walk. We feel tired, worn down, and stuck. We try to “flap our wings” harder to get off the ground, only to end up more exhausted. But Isaiah 40:31 offers a different way: a divine exchange where our weariness is replaced by His power.
1. The Sacred Art of Waiting (Qāvāh)
In our culture, waiting feels like a waste of time. But in the Hebrew language, the word for wait is Qāvāh, which means “to braid” or “to bind together.”
- Waiting is not passive. It’s like strands of a rope being twisted together to become unbreakable.
- Waiting is preparation. When you wait on the Lord, you are braiding your weakness into His strength. You aren’t killing time; you are building trust.
2. The Miracle of the Exchange (Ḥālap̱)
Isaiah promises that those who wait will “renew” their strength. The word here is Ḥālap̱, which means to exchange or sprout again. God doesn’t just give you a little more of what you already have; He replaces your depleted engine with His divine power. He doesn’t just refill your tank; He transforms your capacity.
3. Learning from the Eagle
Why did God choose the eagle as our example? Because an eagle is designed to soar, not just flap.
- The Season of Molting: Every eagle goes through a vulnerable season of shedding old feathers to grow new ones. If you feel “plucked” or exposed right now, God may be preparing you for a higher flight.
- The Secret of Thermals: Eagles don’t gain altitude by working harder; they find rising air currents and let the wind carry them. They don’t run from storms—they use the wind of the storm to lift them higher.
4. Strength for Every Pace
God’s renewal isn’t just for the “big moments.” Notice the three stages of movement in the verse:
- Soaring: For those seasons where you need a new perspective and spiritual elevation.
- Running: For the seasons of high-capacity purpose where you need grace to keep from burning out.
- Walking: For the ordinary Tuesday mornings where you just need the peace to keep putting one foot in front of the other without fainting.
How to Position Your Sails Today:
You don’t chase the wind—you catch it. If you want to rise, you must:
- Be Still: Create space for silence. You cannot feel a breeze if you are running at full speed.
- Raise Your Sail: Keep your heart soft and your obedience ready. A closed sail cannot catch the wind.
- Trust the Timing: God is braiding your life into His purposes. If the wind hasn’t moved yet, He is still strengthening the rope.
Final Thought: Stop flapping. Stop forcing. Stop fighting the stillness. Position your heart in worship and expectation. The Wind of God will take you further than your own strength ever could.
